Reiki
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive biofield therapy used in many clinical environments to support patients’ emotional and physical well-being. Reiki is designed to promote deep relaxation and help the body shift into a calmer, restorative state.
In healthcare settings, Reiki is often used alongside standard medical treatments to ease stress, reduce anxiety, and enhance comfort during times of illness or recovery. Patients frequently report feelings of warmth, calm, and emotional relief during sessions.
A growing body of research suggests Reiki may support beneficial outcomes such as decreased pain perception, improved relaxation, improved mood, stress reduction and regulation of the autonomic nervous system. These effects can create conditions that support healing and improve quality of life—especially for individuals coping with chronic illness, medical procedures, or heightened stress.
Many hospitals, potentially over 900 in the US, offer Reiki as a complementary therapy. Notable examples include the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Johns Hopkins, Yale-New Haven Hospital and several campuses of Sutter Health like California Pacific Medical Center. Many of these institutions integrate Reiki into their integrative or complementary medicine programs alongside traditional treatments.
